Free – £4.00Join Peter Ford for a discussion on Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous novel, his third Sherlock Holmes mystery. Originally serialised in The Strand Magazine from August 1901 to April 1902, it was once voted number 128 of the top 200 favourite novels by a BBC poll.
Things to think about while you’re reading:
1: Is the setting of the Moor pictured accurately and usefully in terms of enhancing the story?
2: What is Dr. Mortimer’s motive in calling in Holmes?
3: What do you think of Stapleton’s strategy of pretending Beryl is his sister instead of his wife?
4: Is the portrait of the hound believable?
5: What issues does the character of Barrymore, the long-standing servant of Baskerville Hall, raise?
