Roman Britain’s Pirate King

July 25, 2022

In 2010 a huge hoard of Roman coins was discovered near Frome, Somerset. More than 750 of the coins were minted during the reign of a little-known Roman ruler of Britain in the mid-3rd century AD: Marcus Aurelius Carausius. This is a recording of a talk held on July 25th 2022 by author and historian Simon Elliott in which describes the spectacular rise and bloody fall of this fascinating late-Roman figure.
