“The talk is based on the Royal Geographical Society’s ‘Discovering Britain’ walk of the same name. The novelist and poet, Thomas Hardy, who lived from 2nd June 1840 to 11th January 1928, is famous worldwide for setting much of his writing in a delightful region of England which he called ‘Wessex’, drawing on the name of a Saxon Kingdom which existed from the 6th to the 10th centuries A.D. This walk takes us through a key part of “Thomas Hardy’s Wessex”, from his home in village of Stinsford, just outside Dorchester, to his birthplace and back to Stinsford church, wherein lies his heart.
