Romantic Narratives – concert of readings & presentations

Our June workshop, Forbidden Fruit, explored the themes of obsession and unfulfilled desire in some high romantic English art and poetry.

This afternoon concert of new writings and discussion will ask whether the incarceration of the Lady of Shalott, or the suicide of Bess the landlord’s black-eyed daughter would be popular or even allowable subjects for the arts today? Should the Manchester City Art Gallery have removed the Waterhouse painting of Hylas and the nymphs? What can we discover about ourselves by revisiting these strange stories from our not so distant past?
