The City of Bath in English Literature

Jane Austen set two of her novels in Bath, showing us life in the city in Georgian times; but she was not the only author to do so. Bath has in fact inspired poets, playwrights and novelists over several centuries until the present day. In this recording of a live online talk Sabine Purshouse presents some of the best-known works of English literature in which Bath is either the main setting or a travel destination. The works provide fascinating insights into the social history of the city.
