Raja Shehadeh is a Palestinian lawyer and founder of the human rights organisation Al-Haq (an affiliate of the International Commission of Jurists). He is also one of Palestine’s most highly regarded writers. Speaking with David Haywood, BRLSI Chair of Management and Convenor for World Affairs, from his home in Ramallah, Raja discusses his upbringing, how he started writing at a young age and how his interest in law was influenced by his father, who was also a lawyer. He also talks about his passion for walking – a passion which has informed some of his books.
