Levelling Up is a moral, social and economic programme which sets out how the government will spread opportunity more equally across the UK. In this recording of a live talk held on May 10th 2022 Professor Philip McCann from the University of Sheffield examines the underlying case for Levelling Up in the light of what we know from both UK and international evidence. He discusses the fundamental economic problems that the UK economy faces relating to the economic geography of productivity and prosperity, as well as the institutional and governance challenges ahead as we try to respond to these problems. The talk also covers some of the issues shaping these challenges and responses associated with the combined effects of Brexit, Covid and the energy crisis.
