Hunting Outbursting Young Stars

September 4, 2020

This recording of a live talk for the BRLSI introduces the “Hunting Outbursting Young Stars” (HOYS) citizen science project, which works with amateur astronomers to study the formation of stars and planets. The talk, by Dr. Dirk Froebrich, Senior Lecturer at the Centre for Astrophysics and Planetary Science, School of Physical Sciences, University of Kent, offers a brief overview on how stars and planets are forming and discusses how the project relies almost exclusively on data taken by Amateur Astronomers. The second half of the talk shows some of the interesting results that have obtained so far. And if you want to be involved, the conversation includes all you need to know about how to participate in the data collection and data analysis.
