Eating Up Easter-Film and Discussion

April 8, 2021

In the film “Eating Up Easter,” native Rapanui (Easter Island) filmmaker Sergio Mata’u Rapu narrates to his son the modern dilemma of their people, who risk losing everything to the globalising effects of tourism. The film follows four islanders, descendants of the ancient Moai statue builders of Easter Island, who are working to tackle the consequences of the rapid development of their home. Filmmakers Sergio and Elana Rapu joined a Zoom discussion of the film for the BRLSI with Tod Hardin, Chief Operating Officer of Plastic Ocean International, to answer questions. This is a recording of that discussion.
