Bath Shakespeare Society

Founded in 1916, this friendly, lively society meets twice a month on Tuesdays between September
and April to read, discuss and enjoy the works of William Shakespeare.

Each year the society holds its annual celebratory lecture on the 23rd April in BRLSI’s Elwin room to mark William’s birthday; with a guest speaker, a large cake in the shape of the man himself and some rather good wine to follow. The event is friendly and inclusive and all are welcome no matter what your familiarity with the texts.

For 2021 the Society released a digital recording – Sonnets from the Sofa – an hour-long recording of the sonnets interspersed with some fascinating insights into the plays and Dr Peter Davies from the society also chaired the BRLSI Big Read on Maggie O’Farrell’s Hamnet. The society looks forward to hosting a live lecture in the Elwin room in 2022 and hopes that you will come along.
