Poetry Cafe News

Saturday 16th June sees a whole Day of Poetry at the BRLSI thanks to the coming together of the second 2012 Cultural Olympiad Writing Day sponsored by B&NES Arts and Development and the Acumen Evening Poetry Cafe which is supported by poetrycan.
The Day of Poetry brims over with special things:
Sue Boyle’s morning workshop, ‘Portraits in Poetry’ concludes with a reading by Cafe poet Lesley Saunders’ from her new book, ‘Cloud Camera.’   After lunch, Lesley is offering the twelve fortunate Writing Day poets a one hour workshop on ‘The Adventure of Creating a Book. ‘
The regular Writing Day Afternoon Concert will offer an unusually high standard of work because the programme consists entirely of poems on the shortlist for the recent Poetry Cafe/Acumen competition.  The concert will be attended by Acumen editor Patricia Oxley, who will be making her choice of the prizewinners to be announced later in the day.
To keep the poets energised for their marathon Day of Poetry, a Welcome Buffet will bridge the gap between the Afternoon and Evening Concerts.  The menu created collectively by the poets offers a mouthwatering selection of vegetarian dishes and will be the most convivial event the Poetry Cafe has attempted so far.  Over forty people will be sharing the meal in the Elwin Room.
Doors will open for the Evening Concert at 7pm.   Torbay Literary Journal Acumen will be showcasing three of their very fine poets, Myra Schneider, Jonathan Steffen and Wynn Wheldon, and to close the evening editor Patricia Oxley will announce the four competition prizewinners.
Places on the workshops are now fully booked, as are the Afternoon Concert and the Welcome Buffet.
Tickets for the Acumen Evening Concert will be available on the door.
