Freshly Prepared Fish

We have just uploaded two spectacular fossils to the JESBI gallery, showing the detailed preparatory work undertaken by Lorie Barber.

Preparation of the first specimen has enhanced its gapping mouth and exposed the teeth for display purposes; the bridge of stone in the mouth was left in place to ensure the specimens stability.
The second newly prepared specimen of Pachycormus shows some spectacular details: the skull is uncompressed, the pectoral fins are arranged as in life, and the gill membranes are perfect.
Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, who have funded the JESBI project, have recently agreed to allow the extension of the project into a fourth year (2013-2014) allowing us to conduct even more new research and preparation of these unique fossils.
