Free tickets offered to BRLSI members for Literary Event at Topping and Co.

Toppings and Company’s bookshop in the Paragon, Bath are offering complimentary tickets (normally £5) for a literary event on Thursday March 4th featuring award-winning novelist and professor of philosophy Rebecca Goldstein (right), joined by renowned psychologist and cognitive neuroscientist Stephen Pinker.

Talking about about faith, reason, fiction, and God, the two will explore what Spinoza would say about Darwin, what role fiction should play in intellectual life, whether any of the arguments for the existence of God are any good, and other topics at the interface of literature, science, and philosophy. Rebecca Goldstein’s books confront serious moral and philosophical questions in a style ”compassionate, original, captivating and riotously funny”. In 36 Arguments for the Existence of God, she covers intellectual ground with humour, charm and originality. Stephen Pinker will offer his thoughts on this and the clash between reason and faith.
The offer is open to all current BRLSI members, but numbers are limited, and tickets are available on a strictly first come, first served basis. To book places, either leave your details at BRLSI reception on the sheet headed ‘Topping and Co Event’, contact the BRLSI office between 10am and 4pm, or email admin@brlsi.org with the event name plus your name and membership number. The event, at Topping’s in the Paragon, is at 7.45pm for 8.00 on 4th March.
