Species with purplish red or blue flowers sometime produce individuals that lack the pigments producing the normal flower colour. These often breed true and produce off-spring with white flowers. The same thing is sometimes seen with Bugle, Self-heal and Wild Marjoram, also in the Mint family, as well as in Bluebells and some other bulbs.
