In this recording of a live online talk for the BRLSI, Professor Stephen Mulhall from the University of Oxford explores what is distinctive about the Phenomenological tradition in twentieth century French and German philosophy, through Martin Heidegger’s identification with the field. This involves exploring the ideas Heidegger inherited from Husserl, as well as his own original contributions to its development. Central themes include the relation of phenomenology to skepticism, its hostility to theorising, and its interest in the conditions for its own possibility.
