This is an external event held at BRLSI; please book via the link below.
Chirality appears everywhere, from our hands and twisting plants to molecules and structures at the nanoscale.
Join physicists Dr Ruidong Ji and artist Usha Kar to explore chirality, the “handedness” found throughout nature, through two different ways of seeing.
Ruidong will explore how scientists use light to investigate chirality, revealing structures and properties beyond what our eyes can see.
Usha will introduce art traditions developed by indigenous Gond communities in India and rooted in storytelling and close observation of the natural world. Through intricate lines, repeated patterns and imaginative representations of trees, plants and animals, Gond artists transform observation into distinctive visual languages.
Bringing these perspectives together, Ruidong and Usha will share artworks created through their collaboration and explore how natural forms can be understood through both science and art.
Participants will then create their own artwork, drawing inspiration from chirality, Gond art traditions, pattern and the natural world.
Please book via this Eventbrite link. You can choose from two free 3-hour workshops (am or pm). Both sessions follow the same programme. No scientific or artistic experience is needed, just curiosity!
