Avon Gardens Trust are delighted to welcome eminent local historian Dr Cathryn Spence talking about Robins’ stunning depictions of Painswick and in particular of the Avon gardens which include Ralph Allen’s Prior Park and Sham Castle and Jerry Peirce’s Lilliput Castle (now Battlefields). His detailed prospects which portray both private and pleasure gardens include John Wood’s South and North Parade gardens with a rare glimpse of the principal pleasure garden, Spring Gardens, as well as the village of Henbury in Bristol, showing the Great House, with its topiary gardens and vineyards beyond.
