Event Series Event Series: Bath at War Series, July 2024

This is the first of three talks about Bath at War, focusing on how the city fared and adapted during WW2.

The talks are on three consecutive Monday, beginning with this talk, Making War – Manufacturing for the War Economy. Following talks are The Bath Blitz on Monday 8 July and The Admiralty in Bath on Monday 15 July.

While manufacturing in Bath had traditionally been associated with small scale craft businesses, by the mid-20th century large scale engineering, textile, woodworking, precision metal working and printing industries flourished in the city.

All quickly adapted to the needs of the war economy and contributed greatly. This was partly through mass production, but also through innovation, with Bath engineers making some extraordinarily ingenious contributions to Britain’s military effort.
