German to English translation workshop

German speakers! How do you know that the copy of The Tin Drum or Steppenwolf tucked away in your bookshelf contains what the writer actually meant to say? You may never have given thought to the subtleties of translation, but Lisa Davey, who teaches the German to English translation MA at the University of Bath, will lead a workshop where small groups of participants will be given texts to translate from German to English. 

In this popular yearly event, Lisa will guide attendees through the challenging process of translation and highlight different approaches to translation, and potential problems that may arise. 

Lisa Davey has been a full-time freelance translator since 1999, operating under the name of Creative TranslationWorks, and teaches the German to English MA translation course at the University of Bath. She has been a member of the German Culture & Language Group at BRLSI for 12 years and served as its Chair from 2010 – 2022.
