  • This event has passed.

For our 2026 BRLSI members’ outing, we invite you to the Royal West of England Academy (Bristol) for an exclusive talk from the curator of its upcoming exhibition.

Cosmos: The Art of Observing Space is a major exhibition which brings together a diverse body of work by over 30 contemporary artists inspired by themes of astronomy, cosmology, astrophysics, planetary atmospherics, solar dynamics and celestial mechanics. It includes rare items of historical significance loaned from public collections, including the BRLSI, and celebrates a partnership with the Royal Astronomical Society.

Visual artist and Royal West of England Academician, Ione Parkin, will discuss the themes and curation of the exhibition and share a behind–the–scenes view on selected artworks. Ione is the curator of Cosmos, the co-lead of the art-astronomy project Creativity and Curiosity, and is a Visiting Honorary Fellow of the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Leicester.

The Royal West of England Academy is Bristol’s oldest art gallery, housed in its own, original, purpose-built Grade II* Listed building. Its mission is to foster lifelong journeys with art and it brings world-class art and architecture to the south-west, showcasing artistic talent across the region and supporting artists at any stage of their journey.
