Antimicrobial resistance poses a growing threat to public health and ecosystems. Environmental factors, including agricultural runoff, wastewater discharge, and pharmaceutical pollution, facilitate the spread of resistant microbes.

There is also evidence that natural reservoirs, such as soil and water, can act as hotspots for the emergence of new resistant strains through the exchange of resistance genes.

This talk will discuss the current evidence from genomics studies, the key role of mobile genetic elements, and the rising threat from drug resistant fungi.
