£3.00 – £6.00Beethoven’s 9th Symphony had its premiere in May 1824 – the same year as BRLSI was established.
Best known for its iconic choral finish, based on Schiller’s Ode to Joy, it became the gold standard for symphonies for composers in and beyond the German-speaking world.
Find out the background to this extraordinary work in an illustrated talk as part of our bicentenary series – in English – by Sabine Purshouse.
Sabine plays violin or viola parts in classical symphonic repertoire with amateur orchestras.
Bath German Society is active in providing talks and discussion topics for the BRLSI German Culture and Language Group. Members or anyone in Bath with an interest in German are welcome to contribute to this part of the society’s activities.
If you’re interested in Beethoven, we also have a talk on Classical Music in 1824 – see here for details.
