Evolution

We’ve seen the past and it works! Anatomically peculiar and culturally complex, our 300,000 years on earth have led us to be a species like no other. Yet, the story of what makes humans unique starts far earlier and is inextricably linked to the stone technologies used by our early ancestors.

This talk covers the co-evolution of humans and Palaeolithic culture from the woodlands of East Africa three million years ago, through to the dispersal of modern humans around the globe. Touching on manual dexterity, language, diet, locomotion and cognition, it reveals that much of what we consider to be unique in humans can be linked to our early reliance on stone technologies.
