£4.00 – £8.00In a year of worldwide democratic choices, distinguished researcher Dr Michael Kranert speaks about the relationship between language and politics in right-wing populism in contemporary Germany. He will also discuss the main differences from political language in the UK.
Michael will use linguistic research methods from the field of discourse studies in order to analyse the influence of contextual differences on linguistic and discursive features.
This talk is in English and will be introduced by Wera Hobhouse, Member of Parliament for Bath.
Dr Michael Kranert is an Associate Professor at Southampton University. Department of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics. He is a linguist interested in comparative discourse analysis in English and German speaking countries. He has published on the discourses of New Labour and the German SPD at the turn of the twenty-first century.
