The past & future of Prog Rock
John Sandford
Sat 17 October at 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm BST
£4.00 – £8.00 Hybrid Event
Progressive rock emerged in the mid-1960s and had its heyday through to the mid-1970s and the advent of punk, which characterised bands such as Yes and Pink Floyd as dinosaurs.
But unlike the dinosaurs, Prog Rock didn’t become extinct! Musician and choirmaster John Sandford will explore the elements in the music that define it as “prog”, how Prog Rock polarised the music community, and how it has developed over the decades since then. John will also consider what the genre needs to do to be relevant for today’s society.
John Sandford is a musician and music teacher with over 50 years’ experience of listening to and analysing the features of Prog Rock.
