Christmas lecture

BRLSI presents its annual Victor Suchar Christmas Lecture!

From the award-winning scientist who identified the bones of Richard III in a Leicester car park and led the project to sequence Hitler’s genome, to co-hosting the BBC’s DNA Family Secrets, Professor Turi King, Director of the Centre for Evolution at the University of Bath, is a world-renowned geneticist working in the fields of ancient and historical forensic genetics and genetic genealogy.

Her talk is one of extraordinary stories – mysteries that were solved using the power of DNA. She explains how genetics informs every aspect of our lives, why it affects us all, and what DNA can – and, perhaps more importantly, can’t – tell us.

Professor Turi King is a world-renowned geneticist working in the fields of ancient and historical forensic genetics and genetic genealogy. She grew up in Canada, then read Archaeology and Anthropology at the University of Cambridge before moving into genetics at the University of Leicester, where Professor Sir Alec Jeffreys, the inventor of DNA fingperprinting, was on her PhD panel. She is probably best known for having led the identification of King Richard III, her leading of the Hitler DNA project, and co-presenting DNA Family Secrets.

Please note: this talk will not be shown online or recorded. Tickets are for attendance in person at 16 Queen Square, Bath, BA1 2HN.
