Coward at sea: Nöel Coward in words & music

Performed by Michael Lunts

Sat 28 November at 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm GMT

£4.00 – £8.00
Live music

A rare opportunity to hear (and see) Nöel Coward’s evocative travel poem, P&O 1930, adapted as a fully-staged one-man musical with some of Coward’s travel-inspired songs, performed by actor and musician Michael Lunts.

Relive the classic voyage home from the Far East to England aboard the SS Madeira, in the company of this master of words and music, when a journey took weeks rather than hours and enabled the passengers to get up to all sorts of antics en route!

“Some poetic justice for sea dog Coward!”  (Michael Coveney Daily Mail), “A charming and innovative piece, capturing the quality of Coward”  (Edinburgh Festival review – Edinburgh Evening News).

Michael Lunts is one of this country’s most experienced and widely-travelled performers, having toured many of his own shows which are devised from the musical work of, among others, Coward, Joyce Grenfell, Tom Lehrer and Flanders and Swann.

He has worked in all areas of theatre during a long career, from repertory to the West End. He is both a classical pianist and actor and has specialised over the last two decades in bringing the two disciplines closer together in his work, including innovative shows in which he portrays key episodes in the lives of composers and the music that emerged from them. He has also recorded many audiobooks, mainly of philosophy, from Kant to Nietszche, which are available for download.
