The world of wasps
Steve Smailes
Mon 4 November at 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm GMT
Steve Smailes will cover the social and the solitary aculeate wasps of our islands, and briefly touch on the parasitic wasps too. Most people are acutely aware of the ‘social’ wasps from an early age; indeed, they often make an instant, enduring and painful impression! These are the bêtes noires which give all wasps a bad name, but they are interesting too.
The solitary wasps introduced themselves to the speaker more gently and gradually, over 30 years or more. They can be very secretive, need seeking out and are intensely aware of scrutiny, but are fascinating to watch once discovered.
This is Bath Natural History Society event; tickets £3 on the door.
