Friday 9 March A treat for History and Literary buffs
A rare showing of brilliant film adaptation of David Garrick’s Restoration comedy which was first performed at Drury Lane in 1766 about the intended marriage of an impoverished country aristocrat, who is all class and no money; to the daughter of a city family – all new money and no class. The observations are as sharply relevant today, as they were then. The young couple, who marry in secret, upset both family’s plans, causing a surprising turnaround, which has hilarious results.
Starring Nigel Hawthorne, Joan Collins, Timothy Spall, Emma Chambers & Tom Hollander
The director Christopher Miles will answer questions after the showing.
