The Tennis Champion who escaped the Nazis

The Tennis Champion Who Escaped the Nazis | Felice Hardy, interviewed by journalist and author Peter Hardy- Monday 23rd October 2023, Queen Square, Bath.

Felice Hardy’s family memoir is based around her grandparents’ lives and ultimately their escape, along with her mother, to London from Nazi-occupied Vienna in 1939. It also explores the fate of those they left behind. Felice’s grandmother was the 1930 Tennis Champion of Austria and later beat Tim Henman’s grandmother to qualify for Wimbledon. She and her daughter also played doubles at The Championships, the only mother and daughter ever to do so. It took the author seven years of research to write her book and, in doing so, to find her identity. In 2021, she received Austrian citizenship, as did her children, so the family has come full circle. Join Felice Hardy for an inspiring tale of resiliance against the odds.
