How do we secure a better future for women and girls? In the light of the Gisele Pelicot case, an event at Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution on Tuesday 14th January offers some thoughts. Professor Emerita Gill Hague takes us on a journey through the brave national and international struggles which have challenged violence against women since the 1960s, highlighting some powerful and very hopeful changes.

Professor Hague has spent much of the past 50 years as an activist and researcher, and in her latest book, History and Memories of the Domestic Violence Movement: she is keen to demonstrate that as societies we’ve come a lot further than we might think. During the talk she will illustrate the powerful changes coming as a result of activism and the increasing effectiveness of social awareness platforms that have highlighted women’s wellbeing such as the #MeToo movement.
