This summer we have an amazing exhibition in our building at Queen Square, full of mythical creatures big and small. There are plenty of dragons and mermaids and we thought you might want to make one at home using playdough.
You could even get your grown-up to take a photo of your amazing creation to put on social media using the hashtag #BRLSI so that we can enjoy it and repost it for you.
Playdough ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup salt
- 4 teaspoons cream of tartar
- 2 cups lukewarm water
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- Food colouring
Stir together the flour, salt and cream of tartar in a large pot. Add the oil and water. Add in your colour. Cook over medium heat. (You must do this bit with a grown up.) Continue stirring until the dough has thickened and begins to form into a ball.
Remove from heat and allow to cool. Knead the dough (push, pull and roll it) until smooth.
If you’re adding colours to make your dragon or mermaid, divide the dough into balls (for how many colours you want) and then mix the colour into the dough.
Use roughly 5 drops of colour per ball & add more if your grown up thinks you need it.
Remember to wear old clothes so you don’t get too messy.
Knead the dough until the colour mixes in evenly.
Once it’s all mixed in, you’re ready to make your dragon or mermaid or whatever else takes your fancy!
Have fun!
