Barry Gilbertson will discuss the history of World Heritage, how Bath’s Inscription on the world list in 1987 makes it one of only two cities in Europe with a citywide World Heritage Site (WHS) designation, explain the five aspects of Outstanding Universal Value attributed to the City of Bath in the UNESCO Inscription, and why the Inscription is so valuable to Bath’s future and its economy.

A former Trustee (and still a Volunteer Guide) with the Bath Preservation Trust, Professor Gilbertson is the new Chairman of the City of Bath UNESCO World Heritage Site. The WHS Steering Group, which Barry chairs, has representatives from 22 international, national and local bodies as stakeholders with a clear interest in the preservation and enhancement of the city’s heritage.
