After many years working in the fashion industry nothing has dampened my unfailing admiration for Miss Muir and her work. When we first met she was the ultimate classic fashion icon and I was a fashion upstart from a street style magazine (Blitz), yet the disparity in our viewpoints was overwhelmed by our shared love of cloth and craft. Miss Muir and I shared an oddball relationship best summed up by a photograph that was taken to publicise the ‘Fashion Cares’ Aids charity. I am tempted to believe that Miss Muir's friendship was a sign of her own artistic cutting-edge aesthetic that is often overlooked. Her work is profoundly influential with designers such as Hussein Chalayan and Jean Paul Gaultier – who is a huge fan.
