America's war in Vietnam was a watershed in the 20th century: it transformed global politics, shifted the centre of gravity in US politics, and changed the basis of American power. It shaped the world in which we live today.
However, we are only now beginning to appreciate the nature of these changes, particularly in how Vietnam, despite the anti-war movement, actually helped increase the frequency of American wars around the world.
