Edith Wharton (1862-1937) was a remarkable lady: she was the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize and she was made a Chevalier de L’Ordre National de la Legion d’Honneur by the French government.
This talk will look at the portrait of American society in her novels; briefly focus on her literary relationship with Henry James and conclude with a consideration of her life in France – including her war fiction.
