Bath Shakespeare Society - Affiliated Group

Bath Shakespeare Society hold their annual lecture to mark Shakespeare's birthday every year in the Elwin room. This annual event attracts speakers from the top of their field and afterwards guests get to toast our great bard with some wine and celebration cake.

The Shakespeare's Society Lecture for 2019 is entitled:

Shakespeare's Women and the Need for Disguise 23rd April 2019 2pm

‘Disguise I see thou art a wickedness’ (Twelfth Night) remarks Viola, entangled in a plot not of her own making, which she is powerless to resolve.
Cross dressing – though not the only form of disguise in Shakespeare’s plays – has many unexpected consequences: for the characters themselves, for those they encounter, and also for the audience, whether in the 17th or 21st century.
