BRLSI History & Culture - Bath Stone Quarries

Date Description
23 May 2018

Bath Stone is one of the world’s greatest stones. But even in the area it was quarried, you have to look hard to find out how this Stone was won. Derek Hawkins will give us a brief history of the Stone from its formation, quarrying the Stone and the uses the quarries have been put to in recent times.

Derek Hawkins began his working life as a quarryman in Limpley Stoke Quarry in the early 1980s, and he was Mine Manager at Monkton Farleigh Mine when it was opened to the public. For the last twenty years he has been Quarry Safety Manager working in Corsham.
