Description:

This is a plaster cast of part of a tritylodont (a group of advanced cynodonts from the late Triassic - early Jurassic). With a name meaning "three cusped tooth" in Greek, Tritylodon was a mammal-like animal with grinding, rodent like teeth. This group still retain a number of reptilian characteristics in the skull but probably looked much like a mammal. The top image is of the palate of the animal.
