French Civilisation

The French Civilisation and Culture group meets on the last Tuesday of the month save for August.

We aim to look at all aspects of France, from high to popular culture, politics, history, art, and film. Past lectures have examined President Macron, Marine Le Pen, and French cinema. Our next lecture, on 30 October 2018, on Haussmann and Paris (part of the Cities programme), given by Professor Nick Hewlett of Warwick University. 26 March 2019 sees Maureen Emerson, author of “Riviera Dreaming”, talking about architecture on the Riviera during the 1920s and 1930s.

Events are held in English, and films are always subtitled - you do not need to be a fluent French speaker to get involved and enjoy our programme!

Venez nombreux, as they say across the Channel...
