Live Event THE BRLSI BIG READ!
A ROOM OF ONE'S OWN!
What if Shakespeare had a sister with an itch for a quill? Would readers have been delivered a different kind of Prospero with a different kind of book?
A Room of One's Own, based on a lecture Woolf gave at Girton College, Cambridge, is one of the great disseminations on what it is to be a woman with creative instincts and drives that are not readily supported? Asking whether there is any such thing as gendered writing and syntax, and looking at how authoresses such as Charlotte Bronte and Jane Austen have harnessed their gifts to greater or lesser success within a context not friendly to them; A Room of One’s Own addresses questions for all budding writers and not just female ones.
Following the success of last week’s virtual book club on Rogue Male, BRLSI are happy to announce the choice of book for June will indeed be A Room of One’s Own and the session will take place at 11am on Friday 26th June. Each Big Read Session lasts approximately one hour.
Session Time: Friday 26th June 11am
Duration: Approximately 1 Hour
This session will be discussion based and we look forward to greeting both Woolf enthusiasts and those coming to her work for the first time.
