2019 is the centenary of the man who launched the modern era of 3D medical imaging: a British inventor who transformed healthcare. The speaker knew him as a colleague and friend. Hounsfield faced many hurdles. Most medical experts were deeply sceptical, there was little funding, computers were costly and crude, and his mathematics had rusted since leaving school at age 16 with no qualifications. Would the brilliant idea wither on the vine?
