Born into poverty in the back streets of Bath, Fanny Murray (1729-78) rose to become the most famous and desirable courtesan of her day. Fanny counted princes, aristocrats and politicians among her friends and lovers, but she also relished the company of rogues, fraudsters and ne’er-do-wells. Barbara White charts her extraordinary story from her early seduction in Bath, through the heady days of her life as a premier courtesan to her later years when she reinvented herself as a devoted and loyal wife.
