With his wife Ingrid, Mick Yates has been visiting the country since 1994, where they founded a successful, sustainable primary school program in 1999. This talk reflects Mick’s personal response to the Khmer Rouge Genocide (1975-1979), and its impact on the the people of Cambodia, even today. It is built around the harrowing stories of people who survived those dark times, and who subsequently dedicated their lives to education as their best response to the Genocide. It includes aftermath photography, using controversial imagery, which forms the centrepiece of his MA in Photography at Falmouth University.
