Close observations of living creatures in natural landscapes inspired her earliest poetry: the animals and plants of the Formby and Sefton coast-lines and the charm of their seasons. She was also drawn to the theme of social injustice and wrote with a muted, but poignant note of protest at the inequalities of our society. As her family grew, insightful and affectionate personal observations emerged in her poems. With the move to Murhill, she exchanged a coastal landscape for one of Mendip limestone and the ancient bank and woodlands of Winsley.
