The British Army & Society in Eighteenth Century Bath

The British standing professional army was established towards the end of the seventeenth century. Throughout the eighteenth century it had a profound effect on both domestic society and British influence overseas. This phenomenon was especially felt in Bath where soldiers came to convalesce, left to fight overseas, or retired with their families.
