Cai Mason Senior Project Officer, Wessex Archaeology Ltd
Excavations by Wessex Archaeology for B&NES Council as part of the Bath Quays Waterside flood defence works have uncovered extensive remains of 18th and 19th century industry, commerce and housing, and evidence of medieval activity along the Avon riverside. The talk will outline what was uncovered during the excavations, and will discuss how Bath Quays, historically known as the Avon Street district, developed, and whether its 19th-century reputation as a den of crime, poverty and vice was borne out by our discoveries.
