Dr Jennifer Gunning

We are very sad to have to announce the death of Dr Jenny Gunning (pictured right), former Chair of Trustees of the BRLSI. She died peacefully on January 14th after a short illness.
Jenny Gunning was a stalwart of BRLSI and used her extensive networking contacts to bring us some very high quality speakers for, among others, a series entitled Paradise Transplanted with financial assistance from the Wellcome Trust. She originally trained as a scientist but over the years became an expert on the regulatory and legislative aspects of assisted reproduction. She was for a term Secretary to the Voluntary Licensing Authority for Human in vitro fertilisation and Embryology, which regulated human embryo research and IVF before statutory regulation was introduced. She provided advice to the European Commission and the British Government and was latterly a Senior Research Fellow in Bioethics and Law at Cardiff Law School where she coordinated the Cardiff Centre for Ethics, Law and Society. We shall miss her.
Jenny Gunning’s funeral was held at Holy Trinity Church, Newton St. Loe on 29th January 2010. Donations in lieu of flowers, if desired, to Dorothy House Hospice Care (care of E Hooper & Son, 13 St James’ Parade, Bath BA1 1UL).
