The Big Read is our monthly book club and on the 21st July at 11am, we are coming off zoom and celebrating the fact that we can be live. Penelope Ruddock will be joining us in Queen Square’s Duncan Room to introduce the book and lead the discussion and it’s not too late to buy your ticket. Even if you haven’t begun on this most funny and truthful of novels, then you might want to come along and find out all about the fascinating Mitford family.
Ever wanted to join a bookclub where you know and love every book on the list! Then the Bath Royal Big Read might be the one. Each month we take a classic and share it with likeminded friends who might want to savor it once more. Texts featured in our Big Read have included The Great Gatsby, The Age of Innocence, The Pursuit of Love, Mrs Dalloway, Rogue Male, Beware of Pity, and Maggie O’Farrell’s Hamnet.
Each Big Read Session lasts approximately one hour, and revolves around a 20 minute introduction of the novel by the session leader, before opening out to a wider discussion with the rest of the group. Attendees are sent starter questions in advance.
And if you can’t make it to the Big Read on The Pursuit of Love then you might want to get reading now for the next Big Read on Persuasion by Jane Austen.
