THE ECONOMIC PROGRAMME OF THE NATURAL LAW PARTYIntroduced by Lynn Royse on 25 February 1999 The speaker had been a candidate for the party at the last General Election. Central to the philosophy and scientific views of party members is the practice of Transcendental Meditation. This stems from the science of Veda, written about in Sanskrit and adopted by the Greeks. Interest in it has been sustained from the 1960s onwards by Maharishi Mahese Yogi. To over-simplify the explanations given by the speaker, there is a strong belief in harnessing the forces of nature. The party claims to have been one of the earliest opponents of genetic engineering. Those attending the discussion were given copies of the very comprehensive General Election manifesto for 1997. As regards economic policy, this rested on the great improvement to health and to efficiency in government and management if Transcendental Meditation was widely practised. Costs of health care would decline, incomes would increase and taxes could be reduced. Such a reduction would promote further cheerfulness, leading to still further improvements and to a drop in crime. Virtually every field of national life would gain. Support for these ideas has spread to many countries; there has been a Natural Law candidate for the American Presidency. Because of the TV publicity, the practice of Yogic Flying was generally known. A minority of Natural Law members gained from this exercise, for which training was fairly lengthy at a residential course. The speaker instructs in Transcendental Meditation at Radstock and Bristol.
